Gregg Krech is a leading authority on Japanese psychologies and the co-founder of the ToDo Institute in Vermont, USA. He is the author of several books including Naikan: Gratitude, Grace and the Japanese Art of Self-Reflection.

Naikan invites us to become aware of the countless unnoticed ways we are supported by others and the world. From the breath we draw in simply to make it to the next moment, the food we take in to sustain ourselves, and the care and effort of numerous others across time and space that make our life possible and comfortable.

One of the key insights of this practice is how it shifts our perception from separation to interconnection. Many people live from a place of disconnection—from others, from the world, even from themselves. But Naikan seems to break down that illusion and reveal how deeply we are all interwoven.
